Essex vs Somerset

A five-wicket haul from Simon Harmer has put Essex in pole position against Somerset. Resuming from 360/4, Essex lost overnight centurion Matthew Critchley early for 121 but still managed to post 462 on the board before declaring, thanks to Feroze Khushi's half-century. In reply, Somerset got off to a shocking start with Jamie Porter removing two batters for ducks in the opening over. While Sean Dickson fought valiantly and carried his bat through for an unbeaten 82, wickets fell in heaps at the other end with only two more batters reaching double digits. Harmer wrecked the lower order as Essex fetched a first innings lead of 295, which was then extended to 310 by stumps.

Resuming at 139/1 in reply to Hampshire's 142, Lancashire posted 374 on the board thanks to Phil Salt's century. Daryl Mitchell struck a useful half-century as well in the middle order before Felix Organ ran through the tail to finish with a six-fer. With a tall task ahead of them, Hampshire lost an early wicket but recovered in style to stay alive in the contest on the back of an unbroken 95-run stand.

Kent vs Surrey

Kent took full control of the contest against Surrey after finishing the second day's play with a lead of 353. Surrey made a woeful start to the day after resuming at 18/2 and they were reduced to 60/7 in no time. Their lower order rallied to add some vital runs that pushed the total to 145 but Kent pressed home the advantage and piled on the misery with an excellent century stand for the second wicket. Kent could have finished the day on a very strong note if not for a late collapse that saw them lose four wickets for just 39 runs before stumps.
