The younger brother of England Test captain, Joe Root, Billy has forever lived under the illustrious shadow of his older sibling. The younger Root came up from the University level, featuring for the Leeds Bradford MCCU and making his first-class debut against Sussex during the 2015 season.
He followed it up with a career-best 133 against the same team in the next season and his ability with the bat convinced Nottinghamshire to offer him a two-year contract in 2017. He played a vital role in what was a successful season for the Trent Bridge based county. He performed usefully with the bat in their victorious Natwest T20 Blast campaign and proved vital in helping them secure promotion to Division One of the County Championships.
