Having played for Lancashire at every age level, Alex Davies made his List A debut for Lancashire in 2011, thereby becoming Lancashire’s youngest ever one-day player. Born and having developed his game at Darwen, Davies is an exciting batsman and a wicketkeeper.
In 2013, Davies signed a professional contract with Lancashire just ahead of the summer. He took part in the latter part of the competition, following the club’s move to drop the regular keeper Gareth Cross.
There was a mini hiccup in his first-class career when Lancashire roped in Jos Buttler in 2014. However, Buttler soon was part of the national side across all formats and Lancashire turned back to Davies. In 2015, he struck seven fifties in 14 matches. Lancashire won the T20 Blast competition in 2015 and Davies played a decisive knock in the final against Northamptonshire, where he scored 47 off just 26 deliveries. His knock earned him the Man of the Match award.
Following a successful season, a knee injury forced him out of action for major portion of the season in 2016. But, Davies came back strongly in the very next year in County Championship with a maiden first-class ton in his comeback match against Essex in the second essay. He maintained the good run by tallying 916 runs in 14 matches with three hundreds and three fifties. Donning the gloves, he claimed 48 dismissals behind the sticks.
